This year we spent Christmas with Daniel's Family and it was so perfect!
Daniel and his siblings have kind of spread out over the last couple of years but every Christmas they all come together and it is a giant party with late nights, lots of board games, and movies.
Christmas morning at my in-laws is so different than at my parents house. They wake up and eat breakfast and then open presents. Present opening is not a rushed thing either. Breaks were taken when someone was hungry or a baby was crying which made present opening take hours! I'm used to waking up at 6 and all the gifts are open by 8. I think we finally finished opening gifts at 2pm this year.
Lincoln had absolutely no idea what was going on with the gifts. Other than choking on wrapping paper a couple times he really had no interest. We got him a push popper as a gift and his cousins loved it but I don't even think Lincoln touched it. Seriously, wrapping paper was all I needed to get him.
Being Santa this year totally changed my view on Christmas gifts as well. It was such a neat feeling providing Christmas gifts for my baby. Even though he didn't care about the gifts, the spirit of thankfulness and giving was there and it made all of the stress of Christmas shopping and worrying about not having enough gifts or good enough gifts, worth it.
It was also really satisfying giving Daniel and new Iphone considering he was still using an old, highly abused iPhone3.
